JFCS is seeking dependable and organized volunteers to assist with general office support and administrative tasks at our offices during business hours. This flexible volunteer opportunity is ideal for individuals looking to give back to the community, gain office experience, or complete community service hours.

Volunteer responsibilities may include:

• Organizing the copy room, kitchen, and other shared office spaces

• Supporting the marketing team with flyer printing and media preparation

• Assisting with mailings and administrative projects

• Writing thank you letters

• Helping answer phones and route calls to staff as needed

• Providing light office and administrative support as needed

This opportunity is flexible and can range from weekly to monthly volunteer shifts based on the volunteer’s availability. Volunteers may choose days and times that work best for their schedule during office hours.

Location: JFCS Offices - Downtown Portland

Volunteer Hours: Monday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (While staff are present)

Commitment: Flexible — short-term or long-term opportunities available

We’re seeking volunteers to help with the many events JFCS offers throughout the year. Opportunities may include:

• Event setup and cleanup

• Check-in and registration assistance

• General event support and guest assistance

This is a rotating volunteer opportunity, meaning volunteers who sign up will receive emails approximately 2–3 weeks before upcoming events to gauge interest and availability.

Events may include:

• Monthly Senior Social Hours

• Intergenerational A.G.E. events

• Educational seminars

• Community gatherings and more

JFCS has started a new partnership with Congregatoin Neveh Shalom in which their food pantry bags are offered to our clients. This is a wonderful opportunity that requires a little help from volunteers. We need 1-2 reliable volunteers to help transport pre-packaged food bags from Congregation Neveh Shalom to the downtown JFCS offices. This role ensures that essential food resources reach individuals and families in need in a timely and efficient manner.

This is a minimal time commitment with pickups and drop-offs scheduled 1–2 times monthly. Dates and times will be pre-planned and coordinated between the volunteer, JFCS staff, and the CNS Food Pantry volunteers.

Requirements:

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a flexible, low-hour way to support food access in our community.

JFCS is looking for volunteers to help with notary needs for our Holocaust Survivor Services clients. They often need their reparation documents notarized so they can have continued care support. This simple step can be a huge roadblock for them in getting the care that they need. Your help can make a huge difference. If you are a certified notary, sign up here so we can contact you when a client needs your help.

COVID-19 has highlighted how many individuals in our community do not have enough access to the technology that powers society. JFCS has a goal to supply clients in need with the materials and information so they can use technology. We are looking for volunteers who feel comfortable assisting these clients in their journey to become tech-proficient. Some possibilities include:

Helping a client set up a new device (iPad, Laptop, cell phone)

Helping a client learn Zoom

Allow clients to reach out to you via email for specific  questions, like, how to install programs, how to trouble-shoot internet connectivity

Leading special sessions for several people to tune into to (i.e. hold a seminar "Tricks to Identify Phishing Scams" via Zoom)

We have clients who aren't able to drive themselves, which can make even the simplest of tasks into a production. We want to make sure our clients can have access to important places, like medical appointments, office meetings, or even the pharmacy to get a COVID booster shot. This is where you come in, by volunteering your time and energy to drive these clients you will add dignity and independence to the lives of these individuals. You will always have the choice in who, when, and where you drive. We will provide you with detailed information to help you decide before each ride.

Please be sure you've accurately identified which hours you're available on your User Profile. We will use this information when trying to find a scheduled match for a client.

Friendly Callers are volunteers who want to lend ~30 minutes a week to connect with a community member in need of a friendly voice. Please be able to commit to two months for starters. Please read the Friendly Caller Into Document below.

Friendly Visitors serve the same purpose of being a friend to those in need, however, they visit at the client's home. They do this for an hour once a week or once every other week. Please be able to commit to about 4 months for starters.
