Each year, JFCS provides Thanksgiving meals for families in need. Partner organizations sponsor items for the food boxes — that brim with potatoes, a kosher turkey, pumpkin pie and more — that volunteers deliver to community members. Click here to see the 2021 Thanksgiving event, and click here to see this year's Holiday Giving page. If you’d like to volunteer your time and energy for this event to make your and so many others’ holiday season special and fulfilling, please respond to this opportunity.
If you volunteer for deliveries, you will drive through the MJCC roundabout and be provided with a list of addresses and the appropriate amount of meal boxes. You will receive about 4 addresses to deliver to. This is a COVID-friendly, no-contact delivery. We will also be doing the boxing of the food items in the gym, you can sign up for that here.
We also need 5 volunteers to sign up for an 'on-call' role for Thanksgiving Deliveries. Every year there are volunteers who have last-minute conflicts and don't show up, so we would appreciate some volunteers who are available between 1-3 pm to potentially do any routes that volunteers don't show up for. We will call you if this service is needed from you. You can sign-up for that here.
Important information:
- This event will take place between 12-2pm, you will come to the MJCC during a specific time slot, and the task should take about an hour to an hour and a half
- This task might require you to carry heavy boxes and walk up stairs.
Keep in mind when signing up:
- Sign up for a single, specific shift. Pull into the MJCC circle during the 15 minutes you are assigned.
- Even if a time slot is full, we recommend joining the waitlist if you are interested, as people's schedules can change before then!
- Please note the neighborhood you live in or would like to deliver to, I will match you with clients nearby
- You have to register for the site to respond to the opportunity.
Feel free to reach out to Volunteer Coordinator, Sammy Monk, at volunteer@jfcs-portland.org with additional questions or concerns.
